BEIJING, Nov. 3 (Xinhua) -- The People's Bank of China (PBOC), or the central bank, announced on Friday that it is to raise the deposit reserve ratio of banks, excluding rural cooperative banks and credit cooperatives, by 0.5 percentage points from Nov. 15. 北京，11月3曰（新华社）－－中国人民银行，也称央行，在星期五宣布将从11月15曰提高包括农村信用合作社在内的银行存款准备金率0.5个百分点。

Six first-grade students were trampled to death and 39 injured during a stampede at a middle school in East China's Jiangxi Province on Saturday evening, local officials confirmed yesterday. 据当地政府官员证实，在星期六中国东部的江西省一所中学发生踩踏事件，造成了六名初一学生死亡和39名学生受伤。


The accident occurred at 8:30 pm after an evening class when students of Tutang Middle School in Duchang swarmed into the staircase of a three-storey building, jostling and pushing each other, Xinhua News Agency reported. 据新华社报道，这起事件发生在晚上8：30，当时该学校的晚自习刚刚结束，学生们快速涌入这座三层楼的楼梯，相互推搡和挤压，最后造成了这起不幸的事件发生。
